I read an awesome book recently called “Crush It” by Gary Vaynerchuk (actually I listened to it on audio). There were so many great moments in this book. This guy’s passion is infectious. If you don’t know who he is, be sure to check out this clip of him on Conan.
One thing he said during the course of his book that stood out to me was about how our lives online are being documented forever. They are going to be a piece of our legacy. This is something that previous generations didn’t have. Our blogs, Twitter feeds, Facebook statuses, photos, videos — ALL OF IT is being stored and will part of the legacy we leave behind.
It’s crazy to think that not only will my kids be able to see how Kesha and I feel in love, but my great great great grandchildren will be able to see in detail all the random details of my life. Very cool — but kind of scary too.
So what kind of online legacy are you leaving? Is it something you’ll look back on and be proud of?
P.S. I set up a blog for my dad that he used a little bit. He didn’t post often, and he didn’t start it long before he died. But it’s something that I can read that brings me comfort and reminds me of how great my dad was. http://grandpasnook.blogspot.com/

Every human on the face of the planet has a purpose. There is only one me. There is only one you. And there are things that you were created to do. You have a divine purpose. So are you living up to it?
I know it’s easy for me to get comfortable. I have many grandiose dreams and plans for my life that I hope to get to someday. But don’t we all? What happens when “Someday” turns into 25 years from now. I can see myself now sitting on the couch with a bag of Doritos and a bunch of unfulfilled dreams.
That’s not what I want for me; and it’s certainly not what God wants for me (or you).
Author, speaker, and creative-thinker Seth Godin released a free manifesto entitled “Brainwashed: Seven Ways to Reinvent Yourself“. It’s a great challenge to get past the invisible walls we have built for ourselves and start living the lives we were meant to live. I encourage you to read it and start thinking about how God might be calling you to change your life.

I have been reading about 2 books per month during the last half of 2010. Well…to be completely honest, I have been LISTENING to about 2 books per month. I have an account with Audible.com and buy audio-books to listen during my commute. Here are a few that are on my reading list for 2010:
Any others that you would recommend? I would love to add a few more to my list.

I have had satellite radio in my car for the last few years. I have really enjoyed it! Maybe a bit too much. Neither XM or Sirius has anything very good in the Christian music arena, so I found that I was spending all of my time listening to talk radio and top40 music. In November I cancelled my XM radio in my car (we still have it in the house), but I didn’t want to simply revert back to my blah FM or AM radio choices in Salem. So I started downloading podcasts and audiobooks to enjoy on what usually equals about 1 hour driver per day. It has been great to stimulate my mind with things that I really find beneficial.
Here are a couple of the podcasts I listen to:
And here are a couple books I have finished or am currently listening to:
I heard the term once “redeem the commute”. It was used to encourage others to use their commute time for personal benefit instead of just getting frustrated with the traffic jam ahead. I have found it very useful for me to take this advice to heart — and maybe you should too!

The drive home was long, but a little easier this time. I got a new deck for my car that connects to my ipod, so I was able to listen to some podcasts and some an audiobook on the way home. I bought The Shack from audible.com. It was a long 8.5 hours to listen to the book, but I really liked it. I know there is a lot of hype about the book and some controversy, but if you are reading with an open heart and able to look past a few shady details, it really has a great message. Any thoughts on the book that you have would be appreciated.
It is crazy not to have my Dad around anymore. Several times I have reached for my phone to call my Dad to chat, only to realize that I can’t do that anymore. It was tough to remove my Dad from my speed dial on my phone. That will be hard to get used to.
I am back to work tomorrow. That will be a huge change of pace. I am so thankful for all the time I was able to take off. I know I will never regret the time I was able to spend up in Calgary during the last couple months. I was able to have almost 2 months off! What a blessing!
Now that things are going to be sorta “back to normal” I will be back on the blog more often and back to my twitter too.
Back to Reality.

I am a little too tired to think…but I wanted to write a quick post. So here goes nothing…
I am reading a really great book right now called Church Marketing 101:

I really have a passion for helping the church be relevant to the world. It is so difficult because the church as a whole is pretty much stuck in the 70s. I think of 50 years back when people were all “suit & tie only” and “no drums in worship”… I feel like we have progressed beyond that (for the most part), but I think we have hit a new wall. A wall that is hindering us from reaching the lost. We are way too comfortable with where we are.
I just registered a new website called trickedoutjes.us – it will be a while before I have something up there. Eventually my desire is for it to be a place where “Creativity meets Christianity”. Web. Art. Music. Video. Print. Drama. Basically any creative element we can use to God’s glory.
Well…that’s about it for now. I am about to die of sleep deprivation…zzz
