Your Online Legacy

02/02/2010

I read an awesome book recently called “Crush It” by Gary Vaynerchuk (actually I listened to it on audio). There were so many great moments in this book. This guy’s passion is infectious. If you don’t know who he is, be sure to check out this clip of him on Conan.

One thing he said during the course of his book that stood out to me was about how our lives online are being documented forever. They are going to be a piece of our legacy. This is something that previous generations didn’t have. Our blogs, Twitter feeds, Facebook statuses, photos, videos — ALL OF IT is being stored and will part of the legacy we leave behind.

It’s crazy to think that not only will my kids be able to see how Kesha and I feel in love, but my great great great grandchildren will be able to see in detail all the random details of my life. Very cool — but kind of scary too.

So what kind of online legacy are you leaving? Is it something you’ll look back on and be proud of?

P.S. I set up a blog for my dad that he used a little bit. He didn’t post often, and he didn’t start it long before he died. But it’s something that I can read that brings me comfort and reminds me of how great my dad was. http://grandpasnook.blogspot.com/

Now, Even Easier to Join the Conversation

10/11/2009

I know there are lots of folks out there who read my blog but never comment — trust me, I have the stats to prove it. Or what’s almost worse is when you do comment but don’t have a Gravatar.

Anyway, for those of you who have thought of commenting, but haven’t up to this point — it is now even easier! I have added Facebook Connect and Twitter login to my site. All you have to do is click the button near the comment form, and comment away!

I  hope to have more of you leaving comments now.

New Social Media

10/03/2008

So I know I have been a little bit of slacker in the blog realm lately. But I have a good excuse! There have been a couple additions to my social media repetoire that I have been able to explore. Let me tell you all about it…

Twitter

I signed up for a twitter account about 6 months back, but nobody wanted to jump on the bandwagon with me (which is no fun) so I sorta neglected it. Then many of you started to use twitter, so I rejoined the crew. Twitter helps you keep in contacting with others with a simple 140 character or less post. It is really cool, and if you have it — add me to your twitter. And if you don’t — sign up!

Facebook

I posted about this a few days ago, so I won’t overdo it. But I have found facebook has connected me with people that I wouldn’t have thought to keep in contact with otherwise. So again — add me to your facebook!

LinkedIn

Good resource for professional networking. Sort of like an online resume. Add me to your linkedin.

That’s about it that I can think of. But for those of you who lie awake at night praying that I will write a new blog post — don’t worry! My blog will remain the central hub for my online presence. Maybe the next redesign can even incorporate some of the services I use.

I will leave you with this funny video from Nick Thune…
