THE SMALL PRINT

08/30/2007

I saw this sign the other day on another website. And it has come back to mind a few times. First because I thought it was sort of odd. Then I started to think how this is true in the world today. Especially as Christians, we make secondary issues first. We tell people how horrible they are if we don’t agree with their lifestyle. They may live with their girlfriend or boyfriend, or smoke, or watch rated R movies. And you bet we will shout our disdain at those things from the rooftops. We will protest abortion clinics. We will debate homosexuals and tell them they are going to burn in hell. We lose friendships over political affiliations. We will stomp our feet and pound our fists. But how much effort do we put into sharing God’s love with a broken world? Or does that end up being the small print?

I think Christ would have had a sign too. And it would not have “YOU FILTHY ROTTEN SINNER” written in bold. Christ loves sinners. And his priority is not to tell them how bad they are.

Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” – Luke 15:1-2

Evangelism has never been easy for me. But I pray the Lord will ingrain a love for the lost in my heart. I pray that my main concern is not to point out other’s flaws, but to pour out grace and mercy. God knows I was once a “filthy rotten sinner” myself. And I didn’t come to know Christ because someone sat me down and gave me the 3rd degree. I came to Christ because one day 10 years ago someone thought it was more important to love me than to shun me.

Is the gospel small print in your life?

It’s so easy to point out other’s faults to hide our own as well. This was an encouraging post babe. Hard to hear but very very true!
